What are your fees?

My fees are on a sliding scale ($10 to $70 per session) to make spiritual direction accessible to those of different means. An initial complimentary orientation session helps discern if my approach seems a fit for what a person is looking for in spiritual direction, and if I feel I can accompany them well. If we go ahead, payment can be made by cheque or e-transfer. I will provide receipts if requested.

Where ARE YOU LOCATED?

I book space at an urban retreat center nearby Commercial & 1st in East Vancouver. Since I share the space with other spiritual directors, if bookings conflict, I find similar meeting space close by. I am happy to do a first orientation meeting in a public venue if desired. I am also open to offering spiritual direction by distance over the phone.

How often Do you meet with people?

I typically meet with people monthly, sometimes more frequently. Meeting at least monthly provides good structure and intentionality for a season of spiritual direction.

Does spiritual direction have a professional association?

Spiritual direction is not as yet a certified field. Some would say the act of professionalization would compromise the emphasis placed on community endorsement which they feel needs to be primary - that is, spiritual directors in faith communities are first and foremost spiritual directors because people affirm this capacity in them, and go to them for spiritual direction. That being so, I seek to hold to the ‘Guidelines for Ethical Conduct’ developed by ‘Spiritual Directors International (SDI)’, an association of which I am a member. Further, in terms of best practices, spiritual directors do well to be seeing their own spiritual director, and be involved in peer supervision, both of which I do with regularity.

Is there any paperwork I need to fill out?

Our first time together allows us to meet each other and explore if and how spiritual direction might be a good step forward. If you decide to continue with me and if I feel I can accompany you well as we listen to the Voice of Love within you, only then would I ask you to complete and sign an informed consent form. This simply crosses the t’s and dots the i’s so we are both starting on the same page in our understandings of what we are doing.
